2026 marks a significant anniversary. In 1526 the New Testament was first published in modern English, having been translated by William Tyndale. Smuggled into England, Tyndale’s whole-hearted obedience to God, which would later see him martyred, was the beginning of getting the Bible into the hands of ordinary people, in language they could understand.
A stirring?
There has been much ‘chatter’ lately about a renewed interest in the Bible. We hear that sales are increasing, and particularly among younger people. Could this 500 year anniversary be a God-given moment, a catalyst to get the Bible into more hands?
And so we have a vision… hundreds, thousands of believers lining the street, silently reading the Bible. Each believer primed to give away their copy of the Bible upon being approached by a member of the public. Then being replenished with another Bible, ready to give to the next enquiring member of the public. Thousands of Bibles getting into the hands of those who so desperately need to hear the word of God. And with every Bible an invitation to join a Bible study… an opportunity to learn more.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…’ (Ephesians 3:20)
